The “bespoke” service differs from all other custom-made garments in that no templates are used. The garment is cut and made solely and exclusively for the specific client, considering their figure, proportions, and preferences. Craftsmanship, accompanied by handwork, is part of this process to create comfort and durability of the garment.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR CREATING A “BESPOKE” SHIRT?
It begins with a pleasant conversation and acquaintance with the client, followed by taking measurements, selecting the material, choosing the collar, cuff, etc. After archiving the request, the shirt is cut, taking into account all the features, balance, shoulder slope, difference in shoulder height (one lower shoulder is quite common, given the daily life and different activity of the two arms), pronounced musculature, abdomen, etc.
Three weeks later, a fitting is done, which is more for the tailor, should any constructive corrections need to be made. After another three weeks, the client receives their first shirt (each order contains a minimum of 2 shirts; with most tailors, this number is 4), which they should wear for about a month to a month and a half and wash or dry clean at least two or three times. After that, the most important fitting takes place, where the tailor notes the changes that have occurred, learns about the client’s impressions, and, if necessary, makes fine adjustments to the cut and starts the production of the second shirt from the order.
The reason for proceeding in this way is that natural materials, such as cotton, shrink, depending to some extent on the maintenance.
Feedback from the client regarding the feeling when wearing is crucial to achieving the perfect shirt.
MORE ABOUT THE SHIRT
The appearance of the shirt, according to some sources, dates back three thousand years in Egypt, but for the modern shirt we know, it is the beginning of the 19th century, England.
Two centuries later, it is an indispensable part of every man’s and woman’s wardrobe. This leads to a huge variety of shirts suitable for all occasions.
The shirt is a garment that lies directly on the skin, which is why the requirements for it are much higher: to look good, following the shapes of the body and its features, to be durable, to provide comfort during movement, and to be breathable, allowing the skin to perform its natural processes.
Covering all these parameters is a difficult task despite the huge variety on the market. The reasons for this are many, as different as people are, their silhouettes, their status, habits, and preferences. That is why “bespoke tailoring”, as the highest form of custom-made clothing, has for centuries satisfied the needs of kings, generals, senior statesmen and clergymen, entrepreneurs, artists, etc.
The price of a shirt starts from 600 euros, depending on the choice of material, with the minimum quantity per order being two (they do not have to be with the same material, cuff, or collar).
